BIRTH NAME: Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu
NICKNAME: Kim

BIRTHDATE: April 19, 1990
BIRTH PLACE: Amoy, China

Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu (born April 19, 1990) was born in Xiamen, China and immigrated to Cebu City at the age of 3. An actress of Chinese descent, she is the first Teen Big Winner of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, besting 43 other teen housemates in June 2006.

Her popularity with viewers and an interest in show business led to acting assignments with fellow Pinoy Big Brother Teen housemate
Gerald Anderson, who became her acting love team partner after Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition. She sang a Chinese song called Peng Yu in Big Brother's house which means friend.

In the six months since the end of Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition, Kim and Gerald have appeared together in several shows on the
ABS-CBN network, bagged several commercial endorsements, and appeared in their first movie, First Day High. They also appear in Love Spell at Aalog-Alog.

ASAP Pop Viewer's Choice Awards 2006: Pop Loveteam of the Year (with Gerald Anderson) & No. 12 Most Beautiful Filipina

CRITICISM
Kim Chiu as Jasmine Sta. Maria, in the TV series, "Sana Maulit Muli". While she is popular as a teenage fashion model, Chiu has received harsh criticism as an actress and as an artist. Many express that her cute appeal fails to shield her otherwise poor and wooden acting performance, especially in her debut movie First Day High, a film panned by critics and moviegoers. In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Nestor Torre criticized Chiu's performance in First Day High, saying "She has a hard time enunciating her lines. She’s too raw and untrained a performer to realize that acting is communication, so clarity of diction and utterance is of prime importance. In a number of scenes, we wince as we listen to Kim struggling to make herself understood, and failing much of the time."

Kim Chiu in Sana Maulit Muli

Kim as JASMINE

ABS-CBN’s newest teleserye, Sana Maulit Muli, starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, is a dramatic love story, set to tear hearts apart as it emulates the mechanics used by movies like If Only (starring Jennifer Love Hewitt) .

HEARTBREAK SONG by Kim Chiu

Bakit kaya
ganito aking nadarama
nasasaktan,
nang hindi naman nalalaman
Kung meron man akong hiling
sa puso kong ito
hindi sana'y hindi sa tulad mo

chorus:
gulong gulo ang isip ko
sa puso kong ito
hindi alam kung bakit ba
ikaw ang minahal
kung kaya ko
lang sanang pigilan
ang aking pusong,
piliin ka
para ibigin ko

Pag ibig ba
ay sadyang di maintindihan
puso't isipan
ay hindi rin magkasunduan
kung kaya kong ,limutin ka
ay ginawa ko na
ano bang meron ka't
mahal kita
repeat chorus 2x

BENCH UNDERWEAR FASHION SHOW

The audience’s deafening response when he and partner Kim Chiu came out on the Araneta Coliseum stage during the Bench undies show surprised Gerald Anderson.

“We really didn’t expect it, kasi we’re just new and there were many other stars who’re much bigger than us,” he says. “And yet, grabe talaga ang screaming and applause.”

Gerald was seated with Kim as we interview him and they keep on teasing and tickling each other. Has something romantic developed between them?

“No, not yet. We’re just closer now as friends and we’re having fun being paired together. Sa taping, kulitan kami lagi, kaya masaya sa set. She’s only 16 and I’m 18, so we don’t have to rush things.”

Life after Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition

The day after The Big Night, The Big Four already appeared in different TV shows. Kim, Mikee, Gerald and Clare together with the ex-Teen Housemates appeared in the Sunday noontime show of ABS-CBN, ASAP 06. The ex-Teen Housemates danced the Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition's theme song, "Kabataang Pinoy" (Filipino Youth) by Itchyworms.

Kim sang her song, Peng You. She wore a cheongsam dress with her hair set like Chun-Li's. Hosts Luis Manzano and Piolo Pascual announced that Kim and the rest of the ex-Teen Housemates are now part of the Kampamilya (Family, the name given to ABS-CBN talents) under ABS-CBN's Star Magic. All 14 Teen Housemates will be receiving management contracts from the network.

In the afternoon, the four appeared in the Sunday showbiz talk show The Buzz. Kim admitted that she's dreaming of both becoming an actress and a singer. She also said that if given a chance, she would choose Gerald, a co-housemate and a close friend, to be her leading man. Mikee, a former partner inside the house, said he was fine with that explaining that she looks at Kim only as a special friend.

Later that evening, they staged Pinoy Big Brother: The Big Reunion at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City, where all the housemates from the Pinoy Big Brother, Season 1, Celebrity Edition and Teen Edition join in one stage. Kim and Gerald had the loudest support from the fans, naming their love team as Kimerald.

A motorcade was held on June 17 at Cebu City, which started from the Mactan Cebu International Airport and ended at the Provincial Capitol. The next day, Chiu became the guest of honor and performer at a concert at Ayala Center Cebu.

Kim is one of the new endorsers of Bench, a local clothing line. She was paired with Gerald in print ads with a caption, "Perfect Pair", advertising the denim collection of Bench. The pair then stared in an ABS-CBN television program Love Spell.

KIM CHIU - www.pinoybigbrother.com

Except for the fact that she's not an orphan, Kim has a sort of 'Cinderella' story. The teen who hails from Cebu, with her siblings, currently lives with her dad and his second family. Her parents separated when she was 9 years old. Her dad met her stepmom during a business trip in Vietnam. Kim's dad got into a vehicular accident and her 'tita' took care of him there. When Kim was in her first year in high school, her mom had to suddenly leave for Hong Kong, so her dad and his new family took her and her siblings under their wing. "Wala naman akong magawa. Hindi na rin naming nagawang magalit. Kesa magtanim ka ng galit sa puso mo, tanggapin mo na lang."

She rates her relationship with her stepmother as 'ok lang', neither good nor bad. "She doesn't talk to us about our dad. Minsan mabait siya minsan hindi. Dati masungit talaga siya. May nagawa lang kaming konting mali ng mga kapatid ko sinusumbong na niya sa daddy ko. Napapagalitan tuloy kami. Tapos minsan sabi ni daddy 50 pesos ang baon ko, then 20 lang ang bibigay niya." Their family used to be well-off. They even had a store in Tacloban. Her family isn't exactly dirt poor now but she sometimes misses the old days when she got driven to school by their own car. "My mom nagpatayo siya noon ng house na worth halos 4 million pesos tapos di naman pala namin kaya. Ang nagpapaaral sa akin ngayon dad at tita ko. We used to have our own house, our own car. Now we live with my lola and I take a jeep to school."

With her cute Chinese looks you'd think boys would be courting her left and right. But Kim's opinion of guys is not exactly the same as their opinion of her. "Tingin ko sa lahat ng lalaki manloloko. Sa simula ok kayo, kapag tumagal na, sumasama na ang ugali. Di na nagtetext, di na nagsasabi kung saan pupunta. Madali kang pagsawaan." Must be her bad experience with her ex-boyfriend. "Friends pa din naman kami hanggang ngayon. Pero sabi niya pagod na daw siya. Sabi ko naman ako rin pagod na. Pagod na sa kakasunod sa kanya, sa kakahanap at kapapaalam sa kanya. Ako na lang ng ako." So this means no Prince Charming for her at the moment.

She feels challenged by Pinoy Big Brother. She believes that she has enough talent and will power to take on Big Brother's tasks. "Gusto ko maging artista. Gusto ko din makita sa TV at patunayan sa mama ko, sa tita ko, sa mga tao na may talent ako. Pwede ako sumayaw, kumanta at umarte. I can play the guitar." Kim's really praying she wouldn't cry, something she hates doing. "Kasi pagumiyak ako sasabihin nila na talo ako."
